More with the Busy

Damn, long day at work, then off to get ready for Free Comic Book Day! Like many times, things are really good, just so much is going on. I’ve been working out the past few months, so now my brain isn’t as mushy as it once was. The downside is wanting to do so much with the new found energy.

Oh well, there is always something.

This weekend was good, much was done. Monday the same, but in a different way. I’ve posted a new comic for Monday and for a variety of reasons, it took the longest out of all of them to date. Goddamn squirrels, even in ink form they torment me!

Back to the Free Comic Book Day Sampler. It’s coming together, now I just need to get the cover sorted out. I’ve been picking out comics for the Sampler and most of them are from this year! When it comes to goals for right now, I just keep working on the next comic. 100 is my current goal and I hope to reach it before the end of the year. I like the stuff from the past six months a LOT more than the earlier work. Heh, I’m guessing I’ll feel similar to the current work a year from now! Oh well, we’ll see where I take this.

Geekery & Art

I’ve spent a lot of time recently at work trying to sort out issues with a box that runs an ancient version of Unix. It’s been part of a “odd software and hardware problem” theme that hasn’t let up yet. Looks like they’re getting their money’s worth at least.

There has also been a bit of art recently. Angela has been working on her windows for the shows this weekend, they’re almost done. She will be posting pictures after the dust settles. She also has some rings in progress in her silver class too. I’m looking forward to seeing how they turn out. Today I finally finished the Pollen Weasels strip, head over and check it out.

Bleh, time for bed.

Techie Insomnia

I can’t seem to fall asleep yet, so here are some other random tech bits for the day.

Today, I worked on an laptop that the user had the desktop picture changing every 5 seconds. It’s the first time I’ve seen someone do that on purpose and it made working on it…interesting. The other thing I noticed was that it only had the 256 MB of RAM that it shipped with. This made the machine run, as a coworker would put it, “as slow as smoke off wet shit”. For pretty much any computer, Linux, Windows or OS X, RAM is the easiest thing you can add to speed up or your system. Or, as in this case, using too little RAM is the easiest way to cripple an otherwise good one. How much is enough? Well, there is a geek saying that you can never be too thin or have too much RAM. These days, I’d say 1GB of RAM is a good place to start (that is 4 times the amount in the laptop above).

Here is another odd bit. The blogging software I’m using is an hour behind on the post time. I’ll have to go back and fix that in a few hours.

Printer Ink Blues

I’ve been getting the stuff together for the Electronics Recycling today at work and had a bit of an accident. One of the cartridges that goes to our large-format HP printers leaked and I got Cyan all over me. Fortunately, most of it just got on my hands and pants. I don’t mind my skin looking vaguely smurfy until it wears off and what better color to get on your blue jeans, than blue?

Hopefully this insomnia of the past couple days will be gone tomorrow. We’re going to see Avenue Q at the Fox tomorrow and I’d like to be awake for it.

Electronics Recycling the 29th

The city of Decatur is going to do the Electronic Recycling again this year and I will be taking a truckload of stuff there this Saturday. If any of my friends want to get some stuff to me by Friday, I will be happy to take care of it for you. Here is a complete list of what they take:

Work & Art

I got a raise today, yeah!

We also went to an art class tonight with Charles. It was a bit awkward coming in midway, but it’s got potential. There are two more classes in this session so we’ll get a chance to see how it goes. I’m curious to see what happens.
