Thursday Already?

Yes, this week has been going quickly. Here is a quick recap since our last episode…

This weekend we worked our asses off in the yard cutting down brush, pictures are forthcoming. Saturday night was the last night of the goth club the Chamber and we were there and it was one hell of a time. Monday we were wiped out from all the weekend yard work and weren’t nearly as active (we watched TV). It was my day off so we ended up going down to Little 5 Points for lunch. Tuesday was back to the pre-press grind and working on Crescent Moon stuff that night (and watching TV). Wednesday was a long day at work but much creative stuff was accomplished. I have been working on their website and some of the advertising stuff trying to make it look better. Funny in this business how the last advertising material a company always works on is their own. Wednesday night was more freelance work (a little TV) and a LOT of bad weather. The wind was pretty damn strong and we lost power a little past midnight. This morning was looking at the couple of inches of snow that fell before sucking down large amounts of coffee and heading to work so I could look busy for most of the day. Tonight, after a nap, involved doing open heart surgery on the iBook to replace the CD drive with a Combo drive. The operation was a success and the patient will be featured on an eBay auction near you.

So there you go. Any questions? Good.

Friday Night

DAMN, what a week! They made me earn my pay at work this time. One of our clients was a major pain in the butt with how scattered and frenzied it was. Heh, trying to install Linux on a couple of the old Macs at work during my spare time was no walk in the park either! Linux may be free, but it is generally still for those computer users who care to make their Kernel Commands just so. The whole week of crap was only so important though.

New Work Website

After much talk over the past year, the pre-press shop I work for now has a new domain. The new address is actually using the company name (neat idea, huh?), as opposed the the previous domain (used since 1996) www.nvgpage.com. The copy of the old website I linked to is cached at the website, Archive.org.

I’m glad to see it happen, it has been something that needed to change since I started working at this company 6 years ago!

Sunday Happenings

Nice afternoon with Angela, running around town to get stuff done. By the evening the rain was in full force and we were in for the night. Angela made her wonderful sausage, clam and tomato soup. She is great with soups and this one is the perfect thing for this kind of weather.

We also has some friends over to join us for dinner. This was finally our chance to meet Caroline’s ever elusive man Drew! They brought a card game called Rook with them and we played that for a few hours. It has been a lone time since I played cards with friends. Heck, its the first time I’ve had friends over to play cards in my own house! I like it.

The Decline of Disney Animation

Disney had caught my attention when the news about the Pixar mess and the Comcast offer came out. With the pace of life as it has been, the company and their work has not been on my radar for awhile. Heck, anybody see Treasure Planet?

Anyway, it got me to look more closely at the house Walt built and I am horrified at how things have degenerated. They are shutting down their Florida and Paris Animation studios and letting go many of the people that made their work great.

Five years ago Disney employed 2,000 animators and now are down to 600. Their new emphasis will be on CG animation, trying to play catch up now that they have pissed off Pixar and drove away the innovative company. Roy Disney, Walt’s nephew, and a group of others are trying to get the company to go back to its roots of creativity and magic.
